Leading the Charge to Ethernet for HPC

Looking for a performance edge, many HPC centers have chosen to implement niche networking protocols such as InfiniBand. Unfortunately, this approach usually locked them into specific vendors’ often inflexible technology roadmaps. Myricom believes many HPC customers today are abandoning legacy niche protocols to take advantage of current innovations in speed and performance to be found in Ethernet, and Myricom is leading the way.

Ultra-High Performance with Sub-3 Microsecond Latencies

Myricom kernel bypass technology routes traffic directly from the computer to applications using MPI, sockets, or other middleware. Myri-10G network adapters for HPC are capable of MPI performance formerly associated only with specialty cluster interconnects, with measured latencies of only 2.5 microseconds.

High Bandwidth Combined with Low CPU Overhead

Myri-10G network adapters for HPC support 1.2 GByte/second MPI Ping Pong data rates, with available Network Adapter bonding boosting that rate to 4.5 GByte/s with 4 network links. Kernel-bypass mode consistently delivers low latency, even on multi-core systems. Zero-copy implementation dramatically reduces host-CPU utilization, freeing up computing cycles to focus on computing tasks. Additionally, the technology can also carry TCP/IP and UDP/IP traffic at line rate for legacy applications.

Support for Legacy Myrinet and a Smooth Ethernet Upgrade Path

Myricom continues to support its previous-generation Myrinet standard, while offering a smooth upgrade path to 10-Gigabit Ethernet. Current-generation Myri-10G network adapters support both the 10-Gigabit Ethernet and Myrinet protocols.
