10G-AIRDAM Line Card

For safety, control of electromagnetic interference (EMI), and for airflow, any otherwise unused line-card slot must be filled with a 10G-AIRDAM line card.

The safety issue is that if two or more adjacent line cards are removed, there is an "energy hazard" due to the possibility of being able to reach the connectors carrying the full output of the multiple power modules. Also, the 10G-AIRDAM card has the same type of front panel with gasketing as other line cards, and thus prevents electromagnetic radiation inside the enclosure from leaking out and interfering with the operation of other electronic devices. Finally, in addition to the front-panel seal, the 10G-AIRDAM includes a airflow dam at the slot between backplanes to match the airflow impedance of other line cards.
